In early 2021, Helsinki Finland's Saxdor Yachts sent a ripple across the boating market with the launch of the 320 GTO. Considering the company was only founded in 2019, it marked an incredible feat for a new brand.
The ultra-sleek T-top design of the 320 GTO quickly became our frontrunner for best boat of 2021. Everything was in the right place, with the right features, and evidently boaters agreed.
The yacht builder took the momentum and in early 2023 launched not only the well-received 270 GTO, which would vastly expand their market share, but also hinted at ambitious plans for 2023 and beyond.
Now boaters are getting the first hint of those new plans with the announcement of the new flagship 400 GTO.
The 400 GTO will be launched officially at the Cannes Yachting Festival in a few weeks time. The new design follows Saxdor's increasingly popular design style - sleek, minimalist, powerful, and excellent value.
The most eye-catching feature of the new 400 GTO is a fold-out terrace that runs nearly half the length of the boat. The open wheelhouse extends to the full beam as well, maximizing internal space and offering direct access to the side terrace, a unique feature that enhances the functionality of the balconies while also creating a "private island experience" while at rest.
The transom is also built of glass -- providing an unobstructed view off the stern deck.
Saxdor utilizes J&J Design for development, who also design for fellow Finnish yacht makers Axopar. The boats are built in Poland at the Elite-Elk shipyard with a company headquarters in Helsinki. Each boat carries a decidedly unique twin-stepped hull intended for ultimate seaworthiness while maintaining controllability under open water conditions.
The lower deck includes a spacious forward double cabin, a separate head with full amenities, an option for a kids’ cabin, and a double cabin at amidships. There is ample headroom with a ceiling height over 6 feet (1.83 m).
In following with the quick-adaptability theme, the cockpit uses modular furniture that can be configured multiple ways depending on the number of guests and whether you're underway or relaxing at anchor. A forward door ahead of the cockpit provides quick access, and privacy, up front.
All told, the amount of available usable space on the deck is among the largest of any boat in the 40-foot size range.
Power will come via twin Mercury 300 hp V8 outboards or Mercury's latest V10 400 hp engines supporting the sleek twin-stepped hull.
