Cobalt Boats has introduced the new R26 Surf for 2027, a sterndrive surf boat designed to combine wakesurfing capability with the layout and features of a luxury runabout.

The new model is rated for up to 14 passengers across an 8'6" beam and a 26'5" LOA. The all-new R26 features a 68-gallon (257 litre) fuel capacity and 810 pounds of ballast capacity. Dry weight is listed at 6,750 pounds, depending on options.

"The new R26 Surf was built for endless days of fun, where all your passengers can be close to the action on the water, and everyone in the water gets to enjoy every moment," said Jason Turner, Cobalt's president, in a press release. "Purpose-built for surfing and refined in every detail, the R26 Surf is a boat that makes each trip, and each moment, special."

The R26 Surf will incorporate a redesigned surf hull with Volvo Penta Forward Drive, the Surf Gate onboard system, and Cobalt's Custom Wave Technology platform. The surf controls can use preset profiles to adjust ballast, speed, and wave direction, while the hard ballast system allows the wave to be adjusted for different riders and conditions.

Power will be available from either Volvo Penta or Monsoon engines. Volvo Penta options include the V8-350CE DP FWD with 350 hp, the V8-380CE DP FWD with 380 hp, and the V8-430CE DP FWD with 430 hp. Monsoon options include the 5.3L DI 350 B4S with 350 hp and the 6.2L DI 430 B4S with 430 hp.

Using Cobalt's customizable onboard surf systems, the R26 can create a long surf pocket designed to provide a wave that can be adjusted to suit individual riders. The boat also features an aft board storage compartment and an extended swim platform to make transitions between the boat and water easier.

Standard equipment will include a folding aluminum arch with Bimini, ski pylon, wakeboard racks, integrated transom wakeboard storage, a flip-down swim step, dual Garmin 943 touchscreen displays, digital switching, and a USB/USB-C charging receptacle.

The interior features wraparound seating, a convertible sundeck lounger, an aft-facing rumble seat, and increased storage. Other available interior features include a dinette table, cockpit heater, bow filler cushions, Sof-Trac flooring and wood interior accents. A bow filler cushion is available to convert the bow seating area into a larger lounge.

A head compartment is also available. The standard configuration features a Porta Potti, while options include a pump-out system, sink console, and VacuFlush toilet.

Exterior options include a hydraulically operated swim platform, electric folding arches, the Luxe Arch, rotating sunshade, bow and aft shade sails, underwater lighting, a rear-facing camera, and upgraded wakeboard racks. The R26 Surf can also be equipped with a bow thruster, trim tabs, and windlass.

The R26 Surf will carry a 28" draft with the drive up, and 43" draft with the drive down. Bridge clearance ranges from 56" with the Bimini to 96" with the tower or hardtop, with a low-position hardtop clearance of 73".

The R26 Surf will join Cobalt's existing Surf Class, which already includes the R35 Surf, R33 Surf, R31 Surf, R8 Surf, R6 Surf, R4 Surf and CS23 Surf.

The R26 Surf follows a series of new models and updates from Cobalt in recent years.

In late 2025, Cobalt introduced the R31 OB as part of its premium Coastal Edition lineup. The 32'8" model features twin outboard power with available Yamaha or Mercury engines producing up to 800 total horsepower. The R31 OB also added features including dual Garmin displays, digital switching, joystick control, a below-deck head and optional Seakeeper stabilization.

Cobalt has also expanded its Surf Class technology, with the company's current Surf System combining Surf Gate, Volvo Penta Forward Drive, touchscreen surf controls, and hard ballast. The company says the system is designed to allow users to adjust wave shape, speed and surf settings from the helm.

The R26 Surf will be introduced alongside the standard R26, a new family-size day boat that Cobalt announced on the same day. Both models share the 26'5" template with an 8'6" beam, with the Surf version adding the watersports-specific hull, propulsion options, and wave-management systems.

The new R26 Surf is currently available through the Cobalt dealer network. You can get a full walkaround of the R26 Surf below:
