Progress comes in waves. The boating industry has systemically deployed a gradual layout of electric motors in recent years, including both inboard and outboard technologies. Battery capacity has increased, speeds have increased, and compatibility and practicality is at an all-time high.

However, as electric motors have broken the 300 hp threshold and reached parity with many gas-powered engines, limitations in battery capacity and rigging compatibility have limited them to smaller boats with single motors.

Not any more.

Canada's Vision Marine, a leader in the electric boating movement, has made another breakthrough by developing a boat configured twin Dual eMotion 180 outboard motors.

Vision has partnered with German performance boatbuilder Sterk Boats to release the Sterk 31e -- the world's first boat with twin electric outboards -- with 360 horsepower.

The boat will be revealed at the upcoming Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, running from October 29th to November 2nd, 2025, at the Bahia Mar G Dock.

“This unveiling at FLIBS represents not only a milestone for Vision Marine, but also for the entire boating industry,” said Alexandre Mongeon, Co-Founder and CEO of Vision Marine in a press release. “It demonstrates the scalability and versatility of our E-Motion™ technology, showing its ability to power larger and more demanding classes of recreational boats. This achievement lays the groundwork for future integrations across an even wider range of powerboat platforms.”

The German boatbuilder was founded in 2008 and offers adventure-style designs ranging from 26 to 31 feet. The Sterk 31 platform is available in Sport or Supersport configurations with either an RC (Rear Cabin) or WB (Wet Bar) floorplan. The Sterk 31 carries an LOA of 30'4" (9.73 m) with a beam of 9'8" (2.99 m). She has a dry weight of 5776 lbs (2620 kg) without engines, a draught of 2'8" (0.84 m), and a max payload capacity of 9370 lbs (4250 kg).

“The Sterk 31 was designed from the outset as a high-performance platform, and working with Vision Marine we have proven that premium German design can be seamlessly matched with advanced high-voltage propulsion.," add Milan Sterk, CEO of Sterk Boats. "This integration demonstrates how electric power can meet the expectations of demanding boaters, and we are proud to debut it at FLIBS.”

The launch of the Sterk 31e will be Vision Marine's 24th completed "integration" of the E-Motion 180E outboard, which has been offered on brands including Smoker Craft, Four Winns, the Groupe Beneteau brands, and more. Vision Marine also holds the record for the world's fastest electric speed run at 116 mph set at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in 2023.

The company recently purchased the Nautical Ventures dealership and marina portfolio in June 2025 which six major retail locations and marinas across Florida, giving them access to a fleet of new brands and models to pursue electrification development.
