Rethinking the RIB - Zodiac Launches X9CC that Barely Resembles a RIB At All

RIBs are no longer the bulky utilitarian vessels they once were.
Thanks to new technology and the evolution of the Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) design, Zodiac, the leader in the segment, has unveiled a new model that barely resembles a RIB at all.
The French company has unveiled the premium X9CC after first teasing it back in July -- a 28-foot center console design with many of the hallmarks of a fibreglass hull without the weight or limitations.
Like the first model launched in the series last year, the X10CC, the new model combines speed, functionality, and comfort in a more maneuverable package. Even more, its hull design, layout, and available options make it barely resemble a RIB. Aside from the typical flare along the sidewall from the inflatable tubes -- which itself is noticeably smaller -- the X9CC could pass for a fibreglass hull at a distance without a boater giving a second look.
The X9CC carries an LOA of 28'3" with a beam of 10'11", making it a capable tender for a larger yacht or superyacht but also an extremely capable dayboat. Weighing only 5,180 pounds (2350 kg) -- a fraction of the weight of a fibreglass counterpart -- the twin-stepped hull bears many of the same performance traits of popular offshore center consoles that currently lead the market.

Powered by twin 250-horsepower outboards, the X9CC has a top speed of 50 knots (57 mph), putting it close to par with many of its contemporaries. The 164 gallon (620 liter) fuel tank also gives it a range and capability similar to many of its contemporaries.
Following the typical Zodiac ethos above the gunwales, safety and passenger space are obvious priorities. The X9CC has room for up to 15 passengers and features high freeboard for added security in rougher conditions. The open layout offers dual lounging areas at both the bow and stern, creating a surprisingly impressive social space for summer adventures, fishing trips, or family cruising. Below deck, a modular cabin provides a berth, a separate toilet compartment, and additional storage space.
The array of features and amenities on the X9CC showcase Zodiac's obvious turn towards dedicated dayboating rather than only tender use. Standard features include sunbeds fore and aft, a twin-seat bolster console, a windlass for anchoring, USd charging ports, a deck shower, and aft swim platform fitted with a ladder.
The transition towards dedicated dayboating, and the desire for owners to have a say in their boat's performance and aesthetic, becomes apparent as Zodiac will offer a range of new color and upholstery choices. Rather than only the standard Carbon White or Military Grey, new upholstery choices also include Blush Bay and Sunset Coral, giving owners an opportunity to customize their Zodiac rather than leaving it as a bland hull lost in a marina of matching white.
Pricing for the Zodiac X9CC begins at $157,000 USD, excluding VAT and any additional options, and comes standard with twin 200-horsepower Mercury outboards. A fully rigged X9CC with the upgraded 250 Mercury outboards and available options will come in around roughly $201,000 USD.
