MJM Yachts offered the first look of the all-new 38V at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, giving boaters a glimpse of not only the first model in its V-Series but also the new design direction for the North Carolina-based boatbuilder.

The 38V features an open deck layout concept with seating and storage designed for day boating alongside a full complement of features for entertaining. MJM also confirmed at FLIBS that a larger 48V model will debut next.

According to the company, the new V series offers a less traditional profile than its X-Series day yachts and R-Series cruisers while retaining the company's recognizable hull design and construction ethos.

“The 38V introduces a completely new silhouette for MJM, but it is built around everything owners value about the brand: a smooth ride, fuel-efficient performance and confidence at the helm," said MJM Yachts president and CEO Natascia Hatch.

The 38V is highlighted by a new silhouette that replaces its traditional pilothouse profile with a sculpted hardtop and integrated glass system. Electrically operated forward windows can be opened to increase airflow around the helm. The design also combines an open-air cockpit and helm area with the option of greater shelter when weather conditions change.

Hull Design and Performance

The new 38V will share its lightweight performance hull construction with the similarly sized 38X and 38R under the MJM umbrella. The hull uses MJM's C5 advanced composite construction technology, a feature well-known to MJM owners for structural integrity, seakeeping ability, and fuel efficiency.

The new design carries a 38'6" LOA with a length on deck of 35'8", a beam of 11', and an approximate displacement of 13,200 pounds. Fuel capacity will be 250 gallons, while freshwater capacity will be 50 gallons. Draft measures 21.5" with the engines raised and 35" when lowered. Approximate air height with radar is 9'. The design also boasts low bow rise, quick planing, and a low-speed planing capability of approximately 12 knots (13.8 mph)

Standard power will be twin 300-horsepower Mercury Verado V8 outboards, with twin 425-horsepower Mercury V10 Verados available as an option. Both configurations are paired with Mercury steering and control technology, including joystick control.

MJM lists a top speed exceeding 50 mph depending on engine configuration, load, and operating conditions.

The helm will also feature a flush-mounted design with space for two Garmin GPSMAP 1543 XSV Ultrawide chartplotters. The cockpit arrangement includes seating and dining areas in both the bow and aft sections, creating multiple spaces for passengers to gather.

Storage is noticeable and ample throughout the platform and can accommodate equipment for a full day on the water including watersports gear.

Cabin and Interior

Although the 38V is designed primarily around open-air boating, it also includes a private cuddy cabin beneath the port helm console for storage. The handy space contains a sink, and head, allowing for extended days on the water. The interior was developed in collaboration with Verge Yacht Design and also features upgraded wood trim, refined accents, elegant countertops, premium materials, and subtle design cues throughout.
