The E1 Series will visit Miami for the first time ever for the finale of the 2025 racing season. One of North America's busiest boating hubs will host the 2025 UIM E1 World Championship — the proper name for the world’s first all-electric powerboat racing series — which will also be the sport's North American debut.
The event will take place on November 8th, 2025, after making previous stops in Lagos (Nigeria), Monaco (Italy), Lago Maggiore (Switzerland), Dubrovnik (Croatia), Doha (Qatar), and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia).
The series launched in 2024 and aims to visit many of the world's busiest boating centers around the world. The 2025 season will also include E1's first visits to Nigeria and Italy.
The E1 Miami GP was officially revealed at a high-profile event featuring Team Miami co-owner and Grammy-winning artist Marc Anthony, alongside E1 founders Rodi Basso and Alejandro Agag. The event will take place in the waters off Virginia Key, near the iconic Miami Marine Stadium, once a central hub for American powerboating. The stadium was built in 1963 and was the first purpose-built venue for powerboat racing. "I’m beyond excited to bring the E1 Championship to Miami," said E1 team owner Mark Anthony in a press release.
"This city has always had a special connection to the water, and with the E1 series, we’re taking that connection into the future, showcasing sustainable innovation and the electrification of marine racing."
This announcement also coincides with the introduction of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) as a presenting partner of the series, which will now be branded the "UIM E1 World Championship Presented by PIF." The partnership is part of the E360 initiative, which seeks to connect E1 with electric motorsport siblings like Formula E and Extreme E. One of the initiative's goals is to fast-track the development of sustainable marine technology and promote eco-friendly racing.
E1’s addition of a Miami event also marks the series' eagerness to engage with the world’s largest recreational boating market. The series boasts multiple celebrity team owners including Marc Anthony, Rafael Nadal, Will Smith, Didier Drogba, Tom Brady, and Steve Aoki. The series also has partnerships with popular yacht builders like Azimut and Sunreef.
E1 Racing is also looking to engage the broader boating community about sustainability in recreational boating. An underpinning of the series' production is to spotlight responsible marine racing and coastal conservation efforts. To lead by example, E1 recently released a sustainability report detailing the environmental impact of the series during its inaugural 2024 season. According to the report, the series generated 1672 tons of C02 emissions during operations in 2024, but was able to offset 1534 tons, or 92%, of its output through its offsetting campaign.
E1 races are spearheaded by the unique and innovative 'Racebird' -- an ell-electric hydrofoiling trimaran designed by Sophi Homme of SeaBird Technologies. Each boat has two 'pilots,' a male and a female, who run on a closed course focused on high-speed turns and extreme maneuverability.
In terms of electric technology, each RaceBird is powered by a 150 kW motor — equivalent to around 200 horsepower —and can exceed speeds of 50 knots (57 mph). The unique design features a carbon fiber hull and an advanced battery system. The boats are engineered to be ultra-lightweight, efficient, and agile, to withstand the intense G-forces of E1’s fast-paced, technical circuits.
Fans who can't attend the Miami event but would like to follow E1 can check the series' list of broadcast partners for viewing opportunities. The series airs on CBS in the United States.
Miami mayor Francis X. Suarez welcomed the news, highlighting Miami’s emerging role as a global nexus for innovation and sports. The city’s backing is expected to boost the local economy, attract new fans to powerboat racing, and accelerate plans to revitalize the Miami Marine Stadium.
