Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP) announced today that José Boisjoli, the company's long-serving President and Chief Executive Officer, will retire by the end of the fiscal year.
Boisjoli will also step down as Chair of the Board at that time. He will remain in both roles until a successor is named.
Boisjoli has been at the helm of BRP since its inception in 2003, when the conglomerate was spun off from the original Bombardier. Over the past 22 years, Boisjoli has led the company’s transformation into a global powersports entity, overseeing a tripling of revenue and a threefold increase in global market share. Today, BRP’s portfolio includes seven product lines that serve both winter and summer pastimes. One in every three powersports vehicles sold worldwide bears the BRP logo.
However, a recent series of public disclosures indicated that changes to the industry conglomerate were forthcoming. BRP announced it would be selling off its entire marine portfolio in October 2024. As part of that decision, two of its well-known recreational boat bands, Alumacraft and Telwater, were sold off in April of this year. Alumacraft was sold to the Bryton Marine Group -- America's largest privately owned aluminum boatbuilder -- whose portfolio includes Duckworth, Kingfisher, and Eaglecraft, and others. Telwater, based out of Australia, was sold to Yamaha Motor Australia, a subsidiary of Yamaha Motor. The Telwater portfolio includes the Quintrex, Stacer, and Savage brands.
BRP continues to own and operate the powersports brands Sea-Doo personal watercraft, Ski-Doo snowmobiles, Lynx snowmachines, Rotax engines for karts and recreational aircraft, and Can-Am offroad vehicles which includes ATVs, SXSs, and motorcycles.
“Leading BRP has never been a job: it's been a work of passion and a true honor,” said Boisjoli in a press release.
“During my 36-year career at BRP, I have had the privilege to shape its DNA alongside brilliant minds and talented people who have relentlessly pushed the limits of innovation to offer the best experiences to our riding communities. Reflecting on my journey, I am proud that we have proven ourselves capable of changing the name of the game within the powersports industry and built a strong organization that is well positioned for the long-term.”
Boisjoli first joined Bombardier in 1989 and was leading its Snowmobile and Watercraft division when BRP became a standalone company. Under his leadership, BRP expanded its product lineup, built a global dealer network, and broadened its manufacturing footprint.
“On behalf of the Board, I want to thank José for guiding BRP on a tremendous path of growth and diversification over the past 22 years, and for his stewardship of the business,” said Barbara Samardzich, Lead Director of BRP’s Board of Directors.
“He has led with purpose and vision, implementing impactful strategies that have resulted in strong value creation and significant returns for shareholders. José has surrounded himself with a seasoned executive team and, together, they will continue driving the business plan and facilitate a smooth transition to a new CEO, when the time comes.”
The Board has launched a formal search for the company’s next President and CEO.
Also today, BRP released its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2025. A conference call and live webcast to discuss the results will took place, followed by the company’s Annual and Special Meeting of Shareholders. #news #brp #bombardierrecreationalproducts #seadoo
