Azimut Unveils 'Neuron' - A Digital Boat Management System that Can Cut Maintenance by 70%

Azimut Neuron

Boutique Italian yacht maker Azimut has released 'Neuron' - a fully-digital yacht maintenance system that regulates diagnostics, surveillance, and automation.

The system was created by Azimut Technical Development in partnership with MDP and was developed using an Azimut Fly 53 during a six-month trial period. The system gives owners with both onboard and remote access through a customizable mobile app, enabling direct control of the vessel's systems including lighting, HVAC, and entertainment. The system also monitors and control's a boat's advanced functions like system diagnostics, performance monitoring, and energy management. It is designed as 'plug-and-play' -- meaning individual components like control units or system hardware can be replaced quickly without affecting the boat's overall functionality.

"Neuron truly improves the owner's life, not only allowing them to monitor their vessel from home and directly manage certain systems with great ease, but also performing diagnostic tests and reducing unscheduled maintenance,"

said Ruggero Gandolfi, Technical Director for Azimut. The most notable benefit to the system is simplicity -- both in functionality and in a yacht's assembly and layout. Neuron reduces wiring weight requirements by 50%, which not only reduces overall weight but also frees up space within a vessel for other systems or functional space. The system also deploys smart energy management by supplying power precisely when and where it’s needed to minimize waste. When Neuron is operational, it lowers both routine and emergency maintenance demands by as much as 70%. If issues arise, Azimut technicians can access the yacht remotely with owner permission to perform updates or troubleshoot faults — removing the need for immediate in-person service at a marina or dealer. Neuron can also detect and identify issues within its individual units, further reducing troubleshooting time and expense by reducing labour time spent identifying and locating the source of an issue. Azimut has been at the forefront of AI and intuitive technology development in recent years, having also partnered with Google to develop an AI voice command system for captains. The system, tested aboard the even larger Magellano 60, allows users to interact with their yacht through voice commands to control the boat's onboard systems. Using AI voice detection, users can activate and adjust many of the boat's functions like climate control, entertainment, and onboard appliances.

With Neuron, users can also monitor and access technical data for their vessel, or give access to Azimut remotely to adjust, troubleshoot, or modify a system as needed.

Neuron is scheduled to become standard equipment on all Azimut models up to 24 meters (80 feet) following final testing in the upcoming months.

“Neuron is a highly innovative system," added Gandolfi. "It is a useful, practical innovation, not an end in itself, but a powerful means.”
