A new flagship signifies the dawn of a new era.
British builder Princess Yachts has announced its largest S-Class yachts to date- the all-new S80.
The S80 will replace the longstanding S78 and will mark several new stylistic choices that Princess will implement going forward. It's new design style bears the influence of the well-received S82 that premiered at Boot Dusseldorf in January.
The new model will feature an 83'5" (25.43) LOA with a 19'11" beam (6.07 m) and a modest beam of 5'10" (1.78 m). Its design is courtesy of the Princess Design Studio, naval architects Olesinski, and Italian design house Pininfarina.
"The concept of the Princess S80 focuses on an uncompromising main-deck sociable living space close to the water with three distinct spaces, sunbathing, lounging and dining, usable simultaneously without conversions" said Andy Lawrence, Director of Design at Princess Yachts, in a company statement.
"The Princess S80 is a Princess above all else with a distinct S Class personality defined by its S hull graphic, strong graphical canopy features and powerful bulwark haunches. We have designed the S80 to sit proudly as the flagship of the S class range," Lawrence added.
The standout feature of the S80 is its enormous cockpit -- roughly twice the size of the previous S78 design. The back half of the cockpit serves as a large open lounge, while the forward half is enclosed and protects an impressive helm. The lower helm station includes either two or three pilot seats, as well as a side deck door that gives access to starboard. A small seating area to port provides a group social setup, while the entire space can be enclosed via a sliding door for excursions with a designated crew.
Up top is a sportsbridge that includes an al fresco dining space and offers impressive views atop the substantial 19'11" (6.07 m) beam.
The massive cockpit also includes passage to the galley and saloon thanks to a large lifting window and sliding glass doors.
Up front, the foredeck includes two opposing curved benches sunk down into the superstructure which provides both privacy and protection from the elements.
Below deck are four ensuite cabins which can all be accessed via a single staircase that descends from the mail saloon. This is another notable difference compared to its predecessor the S78, which had separate access points from two different staircases.
At the stern, a central walkway divides the back portion into halves. An allocated tender storage is on the starboard side and features enough space for up to a 14-foot boat. The crew space is on the port side and can be optioned with either two or three berths. With a two-berth setup, the remaining space can be set up as a cress dining area.
Power comes via twin MAN V12 engines with 1,900hp or 2,000hp, respectively, which bring top speeds of up to 32 knots (36 mph) and 34 knots (39 mph). An optional 7000 litre (1850 gallon) fuel tank offers a significant range increase for long distance travel.
The renowned British shipbuilder has already assigned the S80 for 2024, which means its likely to make its first public debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September 2023 before being available on a broader scale in Q1 2024.
2024 will also see Princess debut the Y80, which uses the same hull and lower deck but includes a redesigned main deck and full length flybridge.
