Sea-Doo announced their 2021 plans via the growing Facebook live trend, and next year will see the industry leader in PWC's accelerate even farther away from their competitors. Excited riders got the chance to see a full video walkthrough of the completely redesigned RXP-X 300, as well as a host of new options in the FishPro and GTX series models.
The biggest announcement by far is the complete redesign of the flagship high-performance model, the RXPX-300. A new deep-V hull moulded from the previous T3-R adds an obvious racing flair, which Sea-Doo touts as a "tight-turning, T-shape" hull that will cut choppy waters with ease and offer better precision turning at high speeds. Other big aesthetic changes include an industry first Ergolock adjustable saddle with 5" of play, allowing for a customized fit and the ability to withstand higher G-forces by reducing upper body stress. New 'X-sponsons' will improve tracking and high speed precision turns, particularly in rough conditions, and the all-new 'shark grill' airflow feature at mid-hull is another industry first that boasts the ability to regulate airflow beneath the surface to improve stability and control in turns. A total weight reduction of 67 lbs also amps up the performance, and coupled with the supercharged Rotax 300hp engine the new RXP-X is capable of 0-50 mph in under 3 seconds, making it the fastest accelerating factory PWC currently on the market.
“The 2021 Sea-Doo RXP-X 300 is the ultimate machine,” said Sea-Doo racer and ambassador Anthony Radetic. “From the looks to the throttle response to the way it carves, the ride is incredible. I can’t wait to get out and race this thing!”
Racing performance will be aided by an obvious focus on ergonomic improvements. Building upon the recognized Ergolock system, the new adjustable saddle and bolster, deeper knee pockets, canted footwell chocks, and a textured saddle surface all combine to allow fine tuning per individual rider or racer needs. There are also significant improvements compared to previous models with respect to storage space (an additional 40L/10.5 gal) with the LinQ accessory system, higher fuel capacity (an additional 10L/2.6 gal), and a 100 watt BRP marine audio system with Bluetooth app compatibility. There's also an optional quick-connect rear seat for high performance riders who want to switch gears into recreational cruisers and bring a passenger.
Other big new tech for 2021 also includes the introduction of the Intelligent Debris Free pump system The IDF system uses a button on the control pad to reverse engine rotation of the driveshaft and impeller. Simply turn the engine off, engage the button, and with a few short revs the intake will clear. Restart the engine, and you're all set to go. The IDF system will be standard on the FishPro 170 and GTX Limited 300, and an available option on the GTX170 and GTX230 models.
“Debris such as seaweed and other vegetation is a constant challenge for riders, regardless of whether they’re taking a joy ride on a lake or running weed lines offshore like I do,” said Bri Andrassy, Sea-Doo Fish Pro ambassador. “The BRP design and engineering teams listened, and this revolutionary new iDF technology is going to be a gamechanger to make it an easier, less-stressful ride.”
The GTX series will also see compatibility with exciting new digital tech. Ahead of the handlebars on the GTX Limited riders will enjoy a full-color digital screen that allows integration with selection mobile apps for music, weather, and navigation. The Wavve Boating app is compatible with SeaDoo for 2021 and will allow riders to see their location in real-time along with other information including shoal locations, water depths, and channel markers. Marine charts are sourced from NOAA in the United States and CHS in Canada. Riders can also tap into community-centric features like crowdsourced points of interest like anchor locations, top rated routes, and the ability to find other riding friends on the water. The app is available on both Apple and Android devices and comes with several subscription options that can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Other great new options for Sea-Doo in 2021 will also include vintage throwback colours including Gulfstream Blue, Millennium Yellow, and Eclipse Black.
It's been a dynamic, albeit a positive year for Sea-Doo brand owner BRP, who announced in May the dissolution of Evinrude engines. Nevertheless, the Canadian-based ownership group continues to expand their offering and have hinted that more new announcements are forthcoming.
